Two were injured early Saturday morning after falling from a 20-foot embankment in Fayette County, authorities said.
The Fayette County Rope Rescue Team was called to the overlook at Ace Adventure Resort, just off Concho Road in Minden, around 2 a.m. Saturday, said Meredith Gray, public information officer for the Fayetteville and Ansted fire departments. An adult man and woman apparently fell over a 20-foot embankment and landed on a bed of rocks.
Although both victims only fell 20 feet, a rope system stretching more than 60 feet was set up to bring both victims to safety, Gray said.
The male victim sustained a head injury, possible broken ribs and a leg injury, Gray said. He was airlifted to a Charleston hospital via HealthNet. He remained conscious throughout the rescue. The female victim, who placed a call for help, sustained head lacerations and a possible broken leg. She was taken to a local hospital.
The rope rescue team consisted of Ansted, Fayetteville, Nuttall and Oak Hill firefighters, Gray said. The National Park Service and Ace personnel also assisted at the scene. All personnel cleared the scene by 4 a.m.
