In a rural state such as West Virginia, about the only time residents can get to a U.S. Postal Service branch to buy stamps, money orders or pick up boxes is on Saturday, and then, the service is limited to half a day.
That point isn’t lost on Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., who has taken a step toward guaranteeing postal services are available six days a week.
Rahall has lent his support to House Resolution 173 that seeks to maintain the six-day postal schedule, which some say could be at risk as the postal service seeks ways of reducing its costs.
“Whittling away at mail delivery is not an option for the postal service to balance their budget,” Rahall said Monday.
