Two injured in head-on collision

Two men were injured early Friday when two vehicles collided head-on in the Coal River Valley, according to Raleigh County sheriff’s deputies.

About 1:45 a.m., Christopher Bragg, 30, of Beckley, was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger east on Coal River Road (W.Va. 3), Chief Deputy Dave Stafford said. Benjamin Sutphin, 21, of Racine, was driving a 1997 Ford Escort and failed to yield the right-of-way to Bragg, pulling from Saxon-Bolt Road onto Coal River Road. The vehicles hit head-on.

Both men were taken to Raleigh General Hospital, Stafford said. The extent of their injuries was unknown. The accident remains under investigation by Deputy Mike Johnson.
