A Mount Hope man was killed early Saturday after his SUV crashed into a tree near Piney View, police said.
Around 5 a.m., John David Miller, 23, was driving a Chevy Blazer north on W.Va. 61, according to Raleigh County sheriff’s Deputy J.L. Redden.
As the vehicle exited a curve, Miller lost control, Redden said. The Blazer crossed the center line and ran off the road and over an embankment, striking a tree before coming to rest in a small stream.
Miller was trapped in the vehicle and was found by passing motorists, Redden said. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Both speed and alcohol were believed to be factors in the accident, Redden said. The investigation is ongoing. Redden is the lead investigator and is being assisted by Deputy R.E. Hall.
