A Greenbrier County man was arrested over the weekend and charged with raping a juvenile at gunpoint inside his vehicle.
Albert Ray Martin, 34, of Quinwood, was being held at Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bond after his arrest for first-degree sexual assault by Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Deputy R.A. Martin. Deputy Martin is not related to the defendant.
According to a criminal complaint filed by Deputy Martin, a 12-year-old female was walking near Charmco Sunday when Albert Martin approached her and asked if she needed a ride. The girl, who did not know the suspect, entered the vehicle, and Albert Martin drove to the Fort Spring area. He then allegedly pulled a 9mm handgun and told the girl to get into the back seat. He then sexually assaulted the girl, according to the complaint.
“The victim then stated she was taken back to the accused’s residence where she spent the night,” Deputy Martin wrote.
When Deputy Martin interviewed the suspect a day later, Albert Martin confessed to the sexual encounter, according to the criminal complaint, and confessed that he had a firearm present at the time. Deputy Martin later found a similar type weapon at Albert Martin’s residence near Quinwood.
“He further stated that he took the victim back to his residence,” the deputy wrote.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Oct. 29. If convicted, Albert Martin faces 15 to 35 years in prison.
