A $226,100 grant has been provided by the federal Department of Homeland Security so the Beckley Fire Department can refurbish a ladder truck.
Funding came from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program, which has been providing funding to fire departments and other first responders the past four years, Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., said Wednesday.
“Southern West Virginia’s firefighters are on the frontlines protecting our communities every day,” Rahall said.
“This funding will help ensure that authorities have the critical support equipment they need to protect the homes and families of Beckley and Raleigh County.”
Such grants are awarded to first-responder organizations to buy equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles.
“We are grateful for Congressman Rahall’s continuing support of the Beckley Fire Department and the citizens of Beckley and Raleigh County,” Beckley Fire Capt. Billie Trump said.
