Greenbrier County Clerk B.J. Livesay said the official results of Tuesday’s primaries won’t be known until the beginning of next week.
Poll workers began the laborious task of opening more than 100 challenged ballots Friday morning and were still sorting through votes by the close of business Friday.
“We should be able to make the results official by Monday afternoon,” Livesay said Friday.
Only one race could conceivably be changed if enough votes switched hands. In the Democratic primary for prosecutor, newcomer Martha Fleshman beat Douglas Arbuckle by only 23 votes — 2,709 to 2,686. Incumbent Kevin Hanson came in third with 1,949 votes.
The eventual nominee will take on Republican Pat Via in the fall’s general election.
