Capito has fundraiser in Greenbrier County

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., said Friday she supports President Bush’s economic stimulus package and also had a fundraiser at a private home in Greenbrier County.

Moore, who represents the state’s 2nd Congressional District, was one of many House Republicans who attended the three-day issues retreat for the “Congress of Tomorrow” and listened to Bush speak Friday at The Greenbrier. She said the economy is the nation’s top issue for Congress and West Virginians.

“In West Virginia, we are very aware that we always have higher gas prices and health care costs are rising and the instability in the markets and housing markets are a great concern,” Moore said by phone Friday. “So when we go back to Congress next week, I hope we will pass an economic stimulus package that will help a lot of middle-class and lower middle-class folks by giving them a tax rebate and helping businesses.”

Moore said she’s also looking forward to her re-election campaign. As of Friday, no primary challengers had filed against the four-term Republican, but two Democratic candidates — Richard Robb and Thornton Cooper, both of Kanawha County — will face off in May for the 2nd District nomination.

Although Moore declined to disclose the location of her fundraiser, she did say it was at a private home in Greenbrier County and she was accompanied by House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.

“Even though I don’t represent Greenbrier County, I have a lot of friends here who have been very generous,” Moore said.
