The driver of a dump truck who died when the truck rolled over an embankment in Lester Wednesday suffered from a medical condition that caused him to lose control of the vehicle, authorities said.
The truck was being driven by Charles Robinson, 66, of Montgomery, according to Chief Deputy Steve Tanner of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.
Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and is believed to have died from the medical condition that caused the crash, Tanner said.
Witnesses following the dump truck told police everything seemed normal until the truck swerved in front of Lester Elementary School. Witnesses said Robinson regained control of the vehicle, but when he came to a sharp curve, the truck went straight, crossing the road and going over the hill before overturning.
No other property was damaged in the accident, and no one else was injured.
Rescue personnel closed W.Va. 54 in Lester for five hours as they worked to remove the large truck, which was fully loaded with stone when it crashed.
