Walgreens to celebrate grand opening Tuesday
While there are thousands of Walgreens stores nationwide, there is only one in West Virginia. That will change Tuesday when the state’s second store holds its grand opening in Beaver.
After two frantic weeks of setting up thousands of items in the new store, manager Dave Handy predicts all will be ready for Tuesday. The store will have a sale on many of its products to celebrate its grand opening.
Walgreens features a drive-through pharmacy window, a large food center and cosmetics department, and photo lab.
“It’s a good place to grab anything you might need,” Handy said.
While Walgreens is similar to some of its drug store competitors, Handy said the store’s customer service and selection edge out the competition.
“What sets us apart is our customer service,” Handy said. “We have full-time photo technicians that are always in the lab. And we have good customer service in our cosmetics department.”
Walgreens offers a variety of services, such as online prescription drug ordering, automatic prescription refilling and online photo submission to the store’s photo lab for processing.
“Between photo and pharmacy, we have an endless amount of services,” Handy said.
While the new store is already fully staffed, it has brought another 19 jobs to the local economy. Handy, who has worked for Walgreens for six years, said the company takes care of its employees.
“We have higher pay rates than anybody around in the same market,” he said, describing Walgreens’ benefits, profit sharing and 401(k) options. Walgreens also promotes from within, giving good employees an incentive to work hard.
The new Walgreens has a convenient location for many motorists. It is situated at the intersection of Airport Road and U.S. 19 in Beaver.
“Everyone coming from Shady Spring has to come that way to get to Beckley and the interstate,” Handy said. “We are right at the busy intersection for quick-in and quick-out access.”
The store will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The store’s pharmacy will be open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
