Health officials say another raccoon in Greenbrier County has been identified with rabies.
The sixth case of rabies this year was found in the Rader’s Valley area just south of Williamsburg. A homeowner saw the raccoon attempting to break into a rabbit cage earlier this week and the raccoon also growled at their family dog. No human or animal contact is believed to have occurred.
The raccoon was killed by the homeowner and submitted to the state hygienic laboratory by a local veterinarian where it tested positive for rabies.
Health officials are reminding the public to continue vaccinating all pets.
