Ex-Window World employee charged with embezzlement

A former Window World office manager is charged with embezzling $11,700 from the business, and police say they believe she has taken even more.

Priscilla Hood, 48, of Oceana, was charged with one count of embezzlement by Beckley police, Detective Lt. Jeff Shumate said. She was arrested Tuesday and released on $10,000 bond set by Raleigh County Magistrate Rick Jones.

Hood was employed at the business between May and October 2005, Shumate said. Window World management had reviewed financial records and noticed irregularities, which caused them to look at their records during the time Hood was employed.

The police investigation revealed Hood had converted at least $11,700 of Window World’s finances for her own use, Shumate said. In some instances, she allegedly wrote company checks in her own name.

The investigation is continuing because police believe more money was taken by Hood, Shumate said.

Sgt. Jason McDaniel aided Shumate in the investigation.
