For The Register-Herald

BECKLEY — The Women’s Resource Center in Beckley will host public screening of Academy Award-nominated documentary ‘‘The Invisible War’’  at 7 p.m. May 9 at The Raleigh Playhouse and Theatre in uptown Beckley.

A $5 donation per person is requested; any donation will be accepted. The theater has donated the space and projection of this documentary.

One hundred percent of the donations will benefit the Women’s Resource Center, serving victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas and Summers counties.

This film is not rated, but due to subject matter is intended for mature audiences. Parental guidance is recommended. A panel discussion will follow the screening.

This documenary is a groundbreaking investigation about one of America’s most shameful and best kept secrets: the epidemic of rape within the U.S. military. The film paints a startling picture of the extent of the problem today, a female soldier in combat zones is more likely to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire.
