Hinton arson suspect Billy Joe Gill’s trial will be delayed after Summers County Circuit Judge Robert Irons granted a defense motion for additional time during a hearing Friday.
Gill, 25, has been charged with two counts of first degree arson and two counts of attempted murder after allegedly setting fire to a two-story home and a row of apartments in Hinton on Feb. 26.
His trial was set to begin May 22, but defense attorney Ryan Keesee told Judge Irons Friday that he has not yet been able to acquire an expert to review the state fire marshal’s findings of the incident.
Irons said he wants to grant Gill’s request for a speedy trial, so he expects Keesee to be ready to proceed to trial before the end of the current grand jury term.
Gill is being held at Southern Regional Jail under $100,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for May 13 at 9 a.m.
