Woodrow student competes in national design contest again

BECKLEY — A Woodrow Wilson High School student will make his way to West Point once again Thursday, as he competes in the national West Point Bridge Design Competition for the second year in a row.

Aniket Zinzuwadia, a junior, won the competition last year, alongside his teammate Nick Bartusiak. The two were awarded with a $10,000 scholarship each.

Zinzuwadia’s father said he will compete again for an additional $10,000 scholarship this year.

“We are very proud of him. This is a big thing. It’s a national championship.”

The nationwide Internet-based competition was designed by two engineers at West Point Military Academy and is intended to promote math, science and technology education in middle and high schools.

The contest provides students with a realistic introduction to engineering using a hands-on design program, which is available for download each year in January.
