BECKLEY —
A Beckley man was sentenced Thursday before Raleigh County Circuit Court Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick to serve three to 15 years in prison for attempted first degree murder.
Eric Christian Morris, 23, of Mool Avenue, pleaded guilty Nov. 14. He was charged in October 2010 with attempted first degree murder and six counts of malicious wounding by use of a firearm.
Defense attorney Marcia L. Hebb made a motion for Morris to be given probation or to be treated as a youthful offender.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Tom Truman opposed probation, but supported Morris being treated as a youthful offender.
Kirkpatrick denied the motion for probation, but agreed to suspend the three-to-15-year prison sentence while Morris serves six months to two years at the Anthony Center. If he obtains his GED, Kirkpatrick said he may be released from the center before the two-year term.
Upon his release from the center, he must appear before the court for further proceedings.
