A 24-year-old man suspected of a fatal stabbing earlier this month waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday before Raleigh County Magistrate Greg Tanner.

Jeremy Ray Edgell, of Beckley, is being charged with the first degree murder of John Lofton Lilly II, 57, also of Beckley.

Beckley Police responded to the call at approximately 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14 in the 1000 block of South Oakwood Avenue.

Police found Lilly had been stabbed multiple times. He was transported to Raleigh General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Edgell and Lilly had been in a heated argument, according to police, when Lilly was stabbed. Edgell was arrested without incident the following morning.

He will be held at Southern Regional Jail until his case is presented before the grand jury.
