Ohio man's condition stable after rafting accident

From Staff Reports

The condition of an Ohio man is in stable condition after being pulled from New River following a rafting accident.

National Park Service officials reported that at about 1:15 to 1:20 PM, a raft entered Double Z Rapids near Nuttallburg where riders fell out of the raft.

Raft guides pulled the riders who were swimming the rapid from the water. However, a 42-year old man from Ohio was unconscious when he was rescued.

A guide with Adventures on the Gorge gave CPR to the man, assisted by a guest.  The guide revived the victim, who was transported by CSX high railer to the Coal Lot. NPS rangers were on scene at the Coal Lot, where an ambulance transported the victim to Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill at about 2:22 PM.

Park service officials say that at 5:50 p.m., his current condition was stable. NPS rangers are investigating the incident.
