From Staff Reports
Crews from six departments were battling a fire late Wednesday night at an Oak Hill antique mall. Witnesses said huge flames were shooting high into the night sky.
Officials with the Fayette County Emergency Operations Center said the fire at Carpetbaggers Antique Mall and Village Shoppes at 1401 E. Main St. had apparently been contained to one building and that firefighters were in a defensive mode.
Everyone was apparently out of the building and no injuries were immediately reported, dispatchers said.
Fire departments from the immediate area and as far away as Montgomery and Bradley-Prosperity were on the scene.
Carpetbaggers is one of the largest antique malls in West Virginia.
According to Register-Herald archives, it was sold in 2004 to retired WVU Tech professor T.H. Ellis.
