Greenbrier County woman dies after car wreck

A Greenbrier County woman died Sunday after her vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned, authorities said.

Sharon Kay Terry, 48, of Alderson, died at Greenbrier Medical Center, according to a release from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department.

Terry was driving a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe south on U.S. 219 in Fairlea, near the West Virginia State Fair grounds about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, the release stated. The SUV ran off the roadway to the right, struck a road sign and a chain link fence, then a utility pole.

The SUV overturned and came to rest on the broken utility pole, trapping Terry between the pole and the vehicle’s interior, the release said. Firefighters extricated Terry, but she later died at the hospital.

U.S. 219 was closed for about 21⁄2 hours because of the accident, according to the release.
