School zones throughout Raleigh County will receive extra law enforcement attention for the first week of school by way of additional patrols designated exclusively to concentrate on safety in the school zones.
The Beckley Police Department and Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office will designate officers to patrol the school zones in an effort to remind motorists, students, faculty and parents to slow down and be aware as the community adjusts back to the school schedule.
The “Back to School” patrols will focus on morning and afternoon hours when students are arriving to and leaving from school. Law enforcement wants to remind the community to drive carefully and decrease speed in the school zones and be aware of students who are exiting or entering vehicles and buses.
The additional “Back to School” patrols are being funded by the Southern Regional Highway Safety Office.
