A tractor trailer overturned and caught fire at 4 p.m. Wednesday at mile marker 74 of the south-bound lanes of the West Virginia Turnpike. The wreck caused north and south-bound lanes to be closed for approximately 2.5 hours.
A representative of the West Virginia Turnpike Emergency Operations Center said the driver of the rig was thought to have been ejected during the wreck. The driver was taken by ambulance to a Charleston hospital, the EOC representative said.
Authorities did not know Wednesday what caused the wreck and blaze, but it was raining at the time of the accident. West Virginia Turnpike authorities will be investigating.
The north-bound lanes re-opened at 6:30 p.m.; and, south-bound lanes were expected to re-open by 7 p.m.
