— A Fayette County man sustained a gunshot wound during a domestic incident Saturday in Victor, police said.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said the incident occurred around 8:34 a.m. on Elliot Cutoff Road. When police arrived at the residence, Kessler said, Kara Ware, 35, of Victor, told them her boyfriend, Patrick Charles Legg, 48, of Victor, was acting strangely and destroying the inside of the residence. As police approached the residence, Kessler said, they heard a gunshot, along with a man yelling.

When additional officers arrived, deputies found that Legg had sustained a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen from a shotgun. Legg told the officers he had shot himself, Kessler said.

Legg was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center via HealthNet air ambulance. A hospital spokes-person said Legg was “under evaluation.”

Kessler said no charges have been filed, although a domestic violence protective order was filed against Legg by Ware. Kessler said there were no allegations of physical violence or threats between the two.

The incident remains under investigation by Deputies W.S. Casey and J.M. Pack. State Police also investigated.
