Boy Scout Troop 103 invites the community to come out and take a walk on the wild side at the 26th annual Wild Game Dinner Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Dry Hill-Prosperity Community Center, 1829 Maxwell Hill Road.
Yet again, troop leader Arnold Bolen and volunteer Isaac Ward will see that a wide variety of dishes made with different wild game will be available to try at this event.
In years past there have been more than 30 different meat dishes, though several of those were different venison recipes, like spaghetti, meatloaf and steak.
On the menu will be bear, trout, rattlesnake, raccoon, squirrel, turkey, goose and, of course, venison.
After 25 years planning this dinner, the recipes have been perfected and the community looks forward to their yearly chance to rival the appetite of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods host Andrew Zimmern.
Ward said rattlesnake dishes are among the most popular. Be it rattlesnake stir fry or rattlesnake pizza, it’s one of the proteins everyone wants to try. This year the boys will be cooking up around 30 rattlers.
While the Wild Game Dinner is about community and fun, Ward reminds the public that it is also Troop 103’s main fundraiser and helps keep more Scouts participating in summer camp and other activities.
Those who want to come out and support local Scouts, but aren’t anxious for the bear chili can come out for less adventurous foods donated by local restaurants.
Admission is $10 at the door or $8 with advance tickets.
The Scouts are also accepting wild game donations and are still in need of goose, rabbit and bear meat. If you would like to purchase an advance ticket or donate some game, contact Isaac Ward at 304-877-5498.
