Freshwater Folk Festival Saturday at WSS National Fish Hatchery

The Eighth Annual Freshwater Folk Festival will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery with the day-long event offering a variety of free events.

A  free event, it is presented by the Friends of the White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery.

“I’ve already heard several compliments about our selection of performers who will appear at the festival,” said Larry Davis, president of Friends of the White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery.

Scheduled to take center stage are the Kountry Kickers, a clogging group; champion fiddler Jake Krack; the Alliens Band, which specializes in world rhythm, and White Sulphur native and well-known vocalist Ari Vaughn.

Charley Erb and Beth White, two clowns who excel in their role as stilt-walkers, also will be on hand at the event.

The Freshwater Folk 5K Run will start at 9 a.m. with canned goods as the registration fee.

Dollywood Community Arts activities with Judith Levine as the leader will be featured at the festival.

“There will be many presentations for children and adults about our wildlife biology and conservation of freshwater environments,” said Davis.

“Tours of the hatchery also will be given throughout the day,” he noted.

According to Davis, there  will be an array of vendors on hand with arts and crafts as well as with festival fare.
