Multiple explosions reported in garage fire

Multiple explosions were reported Thursday during a fire in a large garage containing gas tanks and vehicles, firefighters said.

The incident on Fleshman Hollow Road in Rainelle was reported at 4:21 p.m., according to the Rainelle Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find an 80-by-25-foot garage fully engulfed. About four explosions occurred because of propane and welding tanks inside.

The garage also contained a large amount of tools and equipment, two passenger vehicles and three tractors.

The 20 firefighters cleared the scene at 7:42 p.m. The first unit from Rainelle F.D. responded within five minutes and was on scene within 10 minutes. The Quinwood and Meadow Bridge departments responded to the scene, and the Smoot F.D. remained on standby.

No injuries were reported. The fire’s cause is still under investigation.
