First-ever WWHS Black Alumni reunion kicks off Friday

The first-ever Woodrow Wilson Black Alumni Reunion will be held this Friday and Saturday with 150 alumni expected to attend.

Inspired by West Virginia University’s Black Alumni Association, Margaret Taylor messaged all her Woodrow Wilson alumni friends to try to put something together.

On Friday at 6 p.m., the alumni will have a meet-and-greet at Fosters on Main Street featuring a performance by musical artist Rodney Boyden, a Woodrow Wilson graduate.

A business meeting will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Matthews Church, 103 Mills St. During the meeting, a committee will be established to handle the event in upcoming years.

Also on Saturday, New River Park will host a picnic beginning at noon.

The highlight of the evening dinner/dance at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center will be honoring African American educators past and present who will be in attendance. The event starts at 6 p.m.
