The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame (WVMHoF) will make a presentation at the Fayetteville Town Council meeting Thursday to solicit input and memorabilia for its satellite exhibit at the Historic Fayetteville Convention and Visitors Bureau (Fayetteville CVB) office.
The display, funded by The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, will focus on Fayette County musicians including harmonica legend Charlie McCoy and mega-successful Nashville songwriter Donny Kees, but will also include notable musicians from across the state.
“We hope that people will come to the meeting and introduce us to some local artists we’re not presently aware of,” said West Virginia Music Hall of Fame Director Michael Lipton. “We’re looking forward to showcasing these artists’ recordings and memorabilia.”
The exhibit will also include a monitor to play four recent WVMHoF induction ceremonies that were filmed and broadcast by West Virginia PBS.
Lipton said the Hall of Fame also hopes to include its innovative interactive map. The map is a county-by-county map of West Virginia that is loaded on a 40-inch touch screen. Touching a particular county brings up photos, biographies and music clips of notable musicians from nearly every county in the state.
Fayetteville CVB Director Sally Kiner is thrilled about the display being place in Fayetteville.
“This display is an outstanding opportunity for us to share some of Fayette County’s rich musical heritage and talent with the public. We are excited to be chosen as the caretakers of the exhibit,” Kiner said.
The Fayetteville Town Council meets Thursday at 6 p.m. at Fayetteville Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
