Appalachian Power Co. confirmed Thursday that a planned weekend electrical outage will affect western Greenbrier County.
The outage is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday and will affect several communities including Rainelle, Dawson and Smoot. According to a company spokesperson, the power will be off to allow maintenance and repair work to be completed.
Rainelle Mayor Andrea J. Pendleton said Town Hall was informed of the power company’s plans, as were other APCO customers. She said her understanding is that the outage will only occur if weather conditions permit the planned repair work to proceed.
“We hope all of our citizens are aware of the power company’s plans and encourage them to prepare however they need to in order to cope without electricity Sunday,” Pendleton said.
