Fayette jury indicts Oak Hill man in fatal shooting


— Among those indicted by the May term of the Fayette County grand jury was Terreque Alj Gray, 23, of Oak Hill.

Gray is charged in the death of Maurice Lamar McCain, 25. The incident happened at the corner of Mahan Street and Highlawn Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found McCain, who had suffered a gunshot wound. He was transported to Plateau Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Indictments were also handed down for three inmates who attempted to escape from Mount Olive Correctional Complex last July.

Corrections Commissioner Jim Rubenstein said at the time that around 11:30 p.m. July 23, staff noticed that three inmates were not in their assigned housing area. Within 15 to 20 minutes, the individuals were located on the grounds at Mount Olive and taken into custody.

Keith Lowe, of Kanawha County, was imprisoned for first degree murder and was given a sentence of life without mercy. Daniel Smith, of Wayne County, was also imprisoned for first degree murder, but was given a sentence of life with mercy. Stephen Wilson, of Wayne County, is serving two consecutive terms for second degree murder and second offense first degree robbery.
