Electrocuted Fayette County man identified

The Fayette County man electrocuted at Thurmond during an alleged copper theft attempt has been identified by authorities as 22-year-old Dalton Newhouse of Oak Hill.

Newhouse’s body was discovered entangled in a power line Wednesday on Beury Mountain.

Fayette Sheriff Steve Kessler said Newhouse and an accomplice, Charles Raymond Norris, 22, also of Oak Hill, had shot down the wire with a rifle. The sheriff said they had planned to strip the copper wiring to sell as scrap metal, but then Newhouse touched a live wire and was electrocuted.

Norris is charged with attempt to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit a felony and disruption of a public utility.

Around 50 Appalachian Power Co. customers were without power for three hours Wednesday while crews restored the lines.
