Weather blamed for several area accidents

By Jackie Ayres

Hazardous road conditions were a likely factor in a number of motor vehicle accidents in Raleigh County Thursday evening.

A four-vehicle accident was reported around 4:30 p.m. in the area of Robert C. Byrd Drive on Sprague Hill, a supervisor at the emergency operations center said.

At least one person was transported for injuries.

Another person was transported for injuries following an accident in the area of Harper Heights and Harper Road, the EOC said.

No other information was available at press time.

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, vehicles traveling west on Interstate 64 between Beckley and Summers County were at a standstill, the EOC said.

Officials said “bad roads” and a tractor-trailer blocking one lane on the westbound side of Sandstone Mountain were to blame.
