Two Greenbrier County ambulance service employees were injured Wednesday, one seriously, when their ambulance struck two trees, Lewisburg police said.
The accident on North Jefferson Street was reported at 12:21 p.m. It involved an ambulance from Greenbrier County Emergency Ambulance stationed in Fairlea, according to Police Chief Tim Stover.
Douglas Brooks, 31, of Lewisburg, was traveling north when a medical condition caused him to lose control of the 2007 Ford F-350 ambulance, Stover said. The ambulance crossed the southbound lane and struck two trees in a business’ yard.
There were no patients in the ambulance, Stover said.
Brooks had to be extricated from the vehicle, Stover said. He was flown to a Charleston hospital with serious injuries. According to information from Charleston Area Medical Center, Brooks was under evaluation late Wednesday afternoon.
A passenger in the vehicle, Shelley Mabe, no age and hometown available, was taken to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.
Both Brooks and Mabe are employees of the ambulance service, Stover said.
The ambulance was a total loss.
