One person suffered severe burns in a house fire Thursday on Riverside Drive in McRoss, according to the Rainelle Fire Department.
The call came in at about 1:20 a.m. for a residential structure fire in a two-story apartment in McRoss, just east of Rainelle.
Chief Shawn Wolford said the fire was contained to the upper story, but two occupants were in the residence at the time of the fire.
One person suffered severe burns and was transported to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center and then transferred to University of Virginia Hospital.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal and Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department.
Rainelle Fire Department was assisted by Quinwood, Rupert, Meadow Bridge, Smoot and Clintonville fire departments.
They cleared the scene just before 5:30 a.m.
