Dr. Lewis is named RESA I director

The West Virginia Department of Education has confirmed that Dr. Robin Lewis has been hired as the new RESA 1 director.

A Regional Education Service Agency, RESA 1 provides services to Raleigh, Wyoming, McDowell, Mercer, Summers and Monroe counties.

Lewis has been superintendent of Hampshire County Schools since 2007 and was previously the director of curriculum and instruction for Upshur County.

While visiting the RESA 1 office in Beckley, Lewis said she has been working to make sure things run smoothly after she leaves Hampshire County. She will be in the new director’s position full-time before Sept. 1, she said.

“I am very excited about the change and am looking forward to the challenge,” she said. “I want to make sure we are working closely with the counties in our RESA and providing the services we should.”

The job of the RESA director is to attract federal, state, regional and local resources needed for schools; identify and direct the delivery of services needed by low-performing schools; and maintain research-based best practices for supporting teaching, learning and school improvement, among other duties.

Former RESA 1 director Keith Butcher was appointed by the state as the new superintendent of Fayette County Schools in June.
