New River Community and Technical College will soon offer classes as part of the Master Naturalist program, a nationally recognized nonprofit dedicated to training interested people in the fundamentals of natural history, nature interpretation and teaching, and instilling in them an appreciation of the importance of responsible environmental stewardship.
An information session will be held Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. in the Commons Area at New River’s Nicholas County Campus, 6101 Webster Road, Summersville. This session is for anyone interested in learning more about the program and classes that will be offered.
To become a certified Master Naturalist the program requires completing 64 hours of classroom and field training (48 hours of core classes and 16 hours of electives), plus 30 hours of volunteer work.
The Master Naturalist Program will provide a corps of highly qualified volunteers to assist government agencies, schools, and non-government organizations with research, outdoor recreation development, and environmental education and protection.
During the information session potential classes and dates will be discussed, as well as the development of a New River Chapter of Master Naturalists.
The session is open to all. There is no fee to attend.
