Town hall meetings on Affordable Health Care Act for women, families

Two Beckley town hall meetings on the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) benefits for women and their families will be held next week, — on Thursday and Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. — at the Raleigh County Commission on Aging.

The meetings are being sponsored by West Virginians for Affordable Health Care (WVAHC) and the Raleigh County Family Resource Network (FRN). The purpose is to help educate the public on important benefits for women and their families that are part of the new health care reform law.

A key aspect of the meetings will be information about new services for women available as a result of the ACA, such as pap smears, mammography and FDA-approved contraceptives.

The meeting will include a panel discussion featuring Stephen Smith, executive director of West Virginia Kids and Families Coalition; David Sotak, executive director of New River Health Association; and Laurie Thompsen, health coordinator of the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

The meetings are free and sponsors strongly encourage the public to attend and learn how the new ACA benefits can directly help them and their families.
