A fire that destroyed four buildings in Marlinton Sunday re-kindled Monday, according to reports from the Pocahontas 911 Center.
“We don’t have all of the surrounding crews out,” a dispatcher said. “We just have county crews on it now. We just have four county crews out.
“I haven’t been down there myself, but I figure if they thought they would need more then they would have radioed us first because we do have more in the county who are available.”
Dispatchers said the original fire started around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and destroyed a few businesses and several apartments, causing at least 12 families to lose their homes.
Marlinton Mayor Joe Smith said Sunday night that there was a chance of the fire re-igniting because of flammable debris and high winds.
Further details will be given as they are made available.
