Beckley VA Medical Center Director Karin McGraw joined with Emmett S. Pugh III, mayor of Beckley, as he proclaimed November 2013 as National Family Caregivers Month.
All across America, daughters and sons balance the work of caring for aging parents with the demands of their careers and raising their own children.
Spouses and partners become caregivers to the ones they love as they navigate their own careers and health challenges.
Mothers and fathers resume care for children returning home as wounded warriors. Family Caregivers provide crucial support in caring for all Veterans, however, a staggering 41 percent are caring for veterans 18 to 54 years old.
National Family Caregivers Month is a time for all Americans to recognize and thank the humble heroes who do so much to keep our families and communities strong.
