— Later this month, Beckley residents will have a chance to share thoughts and ideas on how to shape the future of the city.

The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will host a public meeting Thursday, Sept. 19, at the UC - Beckley John W. Eye Conference Center from 6 to 8:30 p.m. to discuss ideas for the next 10 years.

“The Beckley we know and love today was created by the decisions of past generations,” said Ann Worley, chair of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee.

“Now it’s your turn to help create the future! Every 10 years, cities like Beckley prepare a Comprehensive Plan to define long-term goals and aspirations.”

She said this is a unique time to consider challenges and discover ways to build on community strengths.

“Most importantly,” she added, “it is a time to consider how Beckley can become the community our children and grandchildren deserve.”

The city’s consultant, Poggemeyer Design Group, will be present at the meeting to facilitate structured sessions. Group discussions will focus on the assets and challenges of neighborhoods, key corridors and special districts within the city.

Information gathered at the workshop will then be used to direct future steps in the Comprehensive Plan update.

“Your input will be used to create specific development or redevelopment scenarios for key areas within the city and to create the vision for Beckley 10 years from now.”
