Suspects who led police on chase still being sought

BECKLEY — Beckley police continued to develop leads Thursday on the location of a driver and passenger who reportedly led police on a chase Wednesday prior to abandoning a truck at Lanark.

Cpl. Will Reynolds said the incident began when police were searching for two suspects. Police were told Wednesday that one of the fugitives — wanted on a felony grand larceny charge and a string of misdemeanors —  was a passenger in a white Dodge truck being driven in Beckley. A patrol officer located the truck, which was occupied by a male driver and the possible suspect, Reynolds said.

The driver didn’t stop for police and instead drove the truck up a hill into a wooded area off of Ragland Road in Beckley around 1:45 p.m.

During a search of the area, police discovered the truck about a mile from Ragland Road “by the way the crow flies,” just outside the landfill at Lanark.

The driver and the person of interest were not apprehended. Police said they returned the truck, a rental vehicle from Enterprise, to the rental agency. It had sustained damage in the chase, Reynolds reported.

Anyone with information may contact Reynolds at 304-256-1723.
