Police still searching for two men involved in chase

— Beckley Police were still looking Wednesday evening for two men who reportedly led police on a chase down Ragland Road earlier Wednesday before driving off the roadway and up a trail into a wooded area, officials reported.

The truck, a white Dodge model, was recovered by police searching the area after the two men had apparently abandoned it, Beckley Police Department Corporal Will Reynolds said.

The incident started around 1:45 p.m. when police attempted to pull over the truck in Beckley.

Instead of pulling over, the driver gave chase down Ragland Road, turning into the lot of Sweet Nothings and heading up an unpaved trail that leads into a wooded area behind the business.

Police quickly covered the area, parking at K-mart and spreading out into Lanark, including a nearby mobile home park that provides access to the same wooded area.

Investigators discovered the truck at an undisclosed location.

However, the suspects had left the vehicle and were not apprehended.

Reynolds said police were told that a fugitive had been in the truck prior to the arrival of police. He added that he could not verify the accuracy of the report.

Police are expected to release more details today.
