— Beckley firefighters extinguished a minor kitchen fire Wednesday evening before extensive damage was done at an apartment complex, Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center officials said Wednesday.

Beckley Fire Department responded to the call from Cranberry Cove apartments, located on McCulloch Drive, around 8:30 p.m.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire, which was caused when a motor on a kitchen fan combusted, said firefighters at the scene.

A second residential fire was reported at a mobile home on Berry Lane in Fairdale at 8:56 p.m., dispatchers reported.

Trap Hill, Coal River and Lester fire departments responded, along with Special Duty Crew 175.

The call was cleared at 9:10 p.m., according to dispatch records.
