CATLETTSBURG, KY. —
The Beckley Correctional Center inmate who had been on the run since escaping Monday was found in a family member’s home in Kentucky around 1 p.m. Wednesday, said Jim Ielapi, deputy commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Corrections.
Joseph Cody Genet, 26, was serving one to 15 years for burglary by breaking and entering when he was discovered missing during the midnight count on Monday.
The nearly three-day hunt and information from the public led authorities to Catlettsburg, Ky., which is near Huntington. Ielapi said authorities had received tips that Genet had previously been seen in Ohio and other areas near Huntington.
Genet is currently being held in a Kentucky jail awaiting extradition to West Virginia, where he will face escape charges, which carry a one- to five-year sentence, Ielapi said.
West Virginia authorities, local Kentucky police and the U.S. Marshal Service assisted with Genet’s capture.
