The Beckley Planning Commission voted Monday to give a favorable recommendation for the rezoning of property on Harper Road.
The property, at 1801 Harper Road, is currently a lot zoned residential and belongs to Nick J. Rahall. However, if the property is rezoned, the residential lot will become a commercial business lot. Enterprise Car Rental has expressed a desire to operate from that location.
A public hearing was held Sept. 12 during Beckley Common Council, and several residents spoke in opposition of the rezoning.
Ira Gangopadhyay, one of those opposed to the zoning change, retained Fayette County attorney Thomas Fast to represent her.
During the public hearing, Fast brought several issues to the attention of council members. The matter was tabled at that time for additional review.
After review by Bob Cannon, Chief Code Enforcement Officer, and City Attorney Bill File, the issue is back on the table.
Cannon said the Planning Commission voted to give a favorable recommendation for the rezoning of the Rahall property and another public hearing is set for Dec. 11 during the Beckley Common Council meeting.
