Two killed and three injured in Lewisburg crash

State Police are releasing few details regarding a single-vehicle accident that claimed two lives and injured three other people Monday in Greenbrier County.  

Excessive speed was a factor in the accident that occurred on Stonehouse Road in Lewisburg at around 1:20 p.m., according to Trooper First Class J.J. Phillips.

Phillips confirmed that the four-door sedan struck a tree along what he described as a “clear road” and caught fire.

Dead at the scene was a female passenger, whom Phillips said was in her 50s or 60s.

Two other passengers — a 3-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy — were taken by ambulance to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, where the girl succumbed to her injuries. The boy was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning, Phillips said.

The driver and a fourth passenger were airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and were also in stable condition Tuesday, according to Phillips.

The trooper declined to identify any of the occupants of the car by name, citing the ongoing investigation into the accident. Phillips further said the relationships among the injured and the dead had not yet been confirmed.
