Auditions were held Saturday for Theatre West Virginia’s 53rd season, and the casting directors said they saw some promising actors and actresses.
General Manager Gayle Bowling, along with casting directors Chris and Annie Bellinger, listened to songs and monologues performed by young hopefuls for the summer show season.
“Talent, professionalism, honesty, directability, a strong work ethic, and ‘someone who plays well with others’” are a few of the qualities TWV looks for in a company member.
They hire a large range of ages and experience levels, and even offer dance classes and internships.
The dance class is mandatory for dancers and optional for other cast and crew members, at no charge, six days per week for two hours each day.
Many of those at Saturday’s audition were college students not only hoping to gain some experience, but also hoping to snag an internship.
The professional training program is offered to 10 to 12 college students who are looking for additional intensive training in acting, voice and dance, for college credit.
Shows this summer will include “Hatfields and McCoys,” “Honey in the Rock,” “Rocket Boys: The Musical,” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
