Bradley-Prosperity Volunteer Fire Department will receive $223,820 in Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) funding through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
Funds under the SAFER program are intended to support the hiring of firefighters and the recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters.
The announcement came Tuesday from Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Carte Goodwin, along with Congressman Nick Rahall.
“West Virginians depend on first responders to be there when our communities need them the most — their jobs are among the most valuable and skilled in the country. We must thank them for their incredible service and constant dedication,” said Rockefeller. “The money provided by this important grant will support our first responders who help keep us all safe and secure. This is great news for the entire community that is served and protected by these brave men and women.”
“Our first responders are an essential part of West Virginia’s rural communities,” said Goodwin. “We must provide them with funding they need so we can ensure the safety of our fellow West Virginians. This grant will directly benefit the Bradley-Prosperity Volunteer Fire Department by supporting the recruiting and retention of our volunteer firefighters.”
“From car wrecks to home fires, our firefighters are pillars of strength and reliance in our communities. These SAFER funds will help ensure that fire departments can hire the firefighters they need to protect our communities, which also means more jobs in our region through better recruitment and retention of firefighters at our local stations,” said Rep. Rahall. “Our volunteer departments depend on community support to keep local fire departments in top shape. Federal resources help meet that need because strong communities mean stronger national security.”
