Forum slated Saturday to focus on child poverty

LEWISBURG — Community leaders in and around Greenbrier County are invited to participate in a forum focused on combating child poverty. The “Our Children, Our Future” forum will be held at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The discussion will revolve around the “Our Children, Our Future” policy platform, which touches upon such issues as increasing the minimum wage, expanding home-visiting programs statewide and protecting Family Resource Networks and Family Resource Centers.

Participants are expected to include members of more than a dozen local organizations, state legislators and families living in poverty.

The forum at WVSOM — which will be held in the Year 2 classroom of the school’s main building — is one of at least 16 being held statewide, each advancing the same issues. Those attending the local forum will be able to access the building from either the front or back door and may park in lots adjacent to those entrances.
