Federal fugitive arrested in W.Va.

A federal fugitive and person of interest in several sex crimes in Kanawha County was apprehended Wednesday in Amma, Roane County, by U.S. Marshals.

According to a press release by the U.S. Marshals Service, Jerry Lee Key, 44, was arrested on a warrant issued by the U.S. District Court in southern West Virginia charging him with violating the terms of his federal supervised release.

Key had served 15 years after being convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the rape of a family member.

After his release from federal prison, Key had become a person of interest in other sexual offenses currently under investigation in Kanawha County.

According to the release, U.S. Marshals accompanied by local and state officers approached a residence on a tip Key was living there.

After Deputy Marshals arrived, they saw Key attempting to escape on foot into a wooded area behind the residence.

After a short pursuit, Key attempted to reach into a fanny pack he was wearing and was tazed by police.

He was arrested and is awaiting a court appearance, without bond, at the South Central Regional Jail.
